Lots has been going on in the background. I have set up a working Intranet powered by Drupal so that we have a development-cum-learning environment. Lynne and I can learn how to use this new Content Management System (CMS) toy to publish our content, and I can use it to test out new stuff - modules, themes and the like before migrating to our 'live website' server.
Speaking of which it is now up and running. I have cracked how to safely expose it to the internet. I left a base build running for a couple of weeks and the scans and other probes stopped after a few days, so I guess it is safe enough to use. So I closed the firewall port while I got on and built Drupal on it. I am working on the final touches to it as I type, so it should be there for the world to see within just a few days.

More time gone and more changes of plans. I've come across an open source Web Content Management system called Drupal. So I am busy installing it into the Devsite on the intranet server. Once I've got the hang of it and got Lynne using it to maintain her part of the website then the plans below will get kick-started again. I'm hoping that having a content management system will make the site more dynamic and interesting. All this coding is fun but it now slows things down too much, especially for Lynne. I'm not a Sharepoint specialist for nothing you know.
I didn't mention last time that the tribute page for PC did get put up, but it sorely needs a few more images. Trouble is that we are getting stuck for room on the Demon web space.
The other major change is that the Labour Party section has gone - Lynne's blog may say something on that one day. In its place is the GF Halls. This stands for the Gluten Free Halls of Fame and Shame and it pretty much "does what it says on the tin". So watch out for developments there.
With a bit of luck the next announcement will be that of having got the Drupal managed upgrade of the site live!

Argh! Eight months gone - but where? The home server is no further forward, though I do have new, different plans for that. That is, put the new free VMWare server on it and install two servers; a web server as orginally planned and a mail server on the second VM. Mebbes that'll see the light of day by Christmas 2007?

We hoped it would be but it hasn't got off to a very good start! It was until two days ago when we had to take PC to the vet to be put to sleep because of what we think was cancer. He is sorely missed and I have put up a tribute page to him very soon. Also decided its time for a content/structure revamp - still happy with the design at the moment. Anyway the C-N-U Apache server is built and that means LAMP and a more interactive website and Content Management for Lynne and her myriad of poems, pictures and recipes eventually.

Lynne has added a couple more new recipes, so I've again re-arranged the menu down the left-hand side to include Starters, which is where the first soup recipe has been added. This collection is growing steadily now, so you have less and less excuse for not feeding your Gluten Intolerant friends well.
Shaun, you might like to try some of them. If I can cook 'em, anyone can.

Addition to Garrath | Shipley & Us | Animal Companions page. Be-Bop, our "intelligent nutter" (quote unquote Terry our Vet) dog, has found his own use for the new cat flap - check out the picture.

So I've actually done it, added a Blog to my personal home page within the site. This should make me be more conscientious with this site. And it'll be an interesting exercise to look back on. Learnt lots of insight from Douglas' Blog.
Future plans still are to add a Bulletin Board on the Home Page and a guest book. Probably the latter first.

Just added a search engine powered by Freefind.Com to the bottom of the Home Page menu that I read about in this month's Internet Magazine. Looks quite cool. Hope its more use when I get more content into the site. Need to check on the sizeactually , thinking about it. Phew! That's OK, its still less than 6Mb, so still got 14Mb to go.
Also decided to change this What's New! page to a blog layout, so I can look back at its development.
Future plans still are to add a Bulletin Board on the Home Page and a Blog in my section. But am now thinking I might go for a guest book first.

Hurray! The layout makeover is finished. Lynne says she wants to change the content in her Picture Gallery soon - so go there now before you miss the current exhibition.
The whole site is now upgraded to the new layout. It really is this time!. After not liking the Terse Verse buttons, Douglas told Lynne that he thought thumbnails would be better in the galleries, so I have changed the format a little, got rid of the old tables and laid it out with CSS now and implemented thumbnails. Hope you like the results. Keep and eye out for the content change.
